Bishop Robert Jones, Jr. Obituary

The Sun rose on Robert Lee Jones, Jr. on June 9, 1947 and Set on March 21, 2021 in Wichita Falls, Texas, he was 73 years old. Robert was born to the late Robert Lee Jones, Sr. and Annie Bell Williams in Wichita Falls, Texas. He attended Dunbar High School in Fort Worth, Texas and later graduated from Burkburnett High School, where he made history as the first Black American Athlete to play Football at the newly integrated school.

He served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Army where he served four years fighting in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged.

Robert and Judy were joined in Holy Matrimony on June 30, 1970 and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2020.

He worked for the City of Burkburnett as a Supervisor in the Sanitation department, retiring with 20 years of service.

Elder Jones served as a faithful Assistant Pastor for the Greater Miracle C.O.G.I.C. under the pastorate of Bishop Alford Ailey for many years. He was known for his exceptional gift of leading praise and worship service, among many other gifts.

Robert and Judy founded the Rhema Family Church of Burkburnett where they served as co- pastors for several years.

In May 2014, Robert united with the Lighthouse Church under the pastorate of Rev. Bobby Scott, where he was a faithful member and friend to many before his passing.

His sons and family would like for all to know that he was a loving, hard working, kind, compassionate, humble leader that was full of wisdom and knowledge. He met no strangers and those that knew him knew that he was always the same whenever you saw him. He loved God and his family.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; Robert Lee Jones, Sr., Annie Bell Crane, his wife; Judy Jones and his sisters; Selita McCleod and Victoria Booker.

Those left to cherish, honor and celebrate his legacy are his sons; James Jones of Fort Worth, TX., Stevie Ray Turner of Gainesville, TX., Robert Q. Jones (Suzanne) of Euless, TX. and Demetrius Jones (Elaine) of Greenville, TX. Two brothers; Grayland Jones (Sherry) of Fremont, CA., Rickie Harris (Donna) of Minneapolis, MN., and one beautiful sister; Brinda Ailey (Pastor Allen) of Wichita Falls, TX.  His uncle; Curtis Williams of Wichita Falls, TX., five grandchildren; Jordan, Zyaria, Justin, Whitney (Shondell) and Kayla. Four Great Grandchildren; Jordan, Jr., Jakayla, Trent, Chloe and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and Friends.
