William Lee Dixon I was born to William Lee Payne and Anna Dixon on February 17, 1949 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Affectionately nicknamed Butch as a child by his family, he attended Booker T. Washington schools on the Eastside from elementary through graduation, Class of 1966.
William was drafted into the military after high school and served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam war. He went on to continue his higher education in Prairie view A&M University after his honorable discharge from the military.
William married Rosemary Craft on April 29,1981. They have three children: Monique, William, II, and Marcella.
He wore many hats in his lifetime, but the ones he enjoyed the most had paint all over them, or a fish hook stuck in them, or were well-worn during family & community service. Oh and, win or lose, he was a die hard ‘49er fan! He was a brother of Felix-Lister Elks Lodge 1217.
William Lee Dixon I was surrounded by family and friends during his time of sickness. He went to his real home in glory on Friday, June 16, 2023 after a valiant battle against cancer and respiratory disease.
William is preceded in death by his parents, William Payne and Anna Dixon; brother, Bobby Joe Wilson; sister, Era “Tootie” Dixon Jackson; brother John Charles “Bubba” Dixon; former wife Rosemary Wilson.
