On Sunday, August 22, 2021, Ruby Lee Smith made her heavenly transition after 87 years on this side of the mountain. Ruby Lee was born on March 20, 1934, to Ray Austin and Lucille (Bee) Savage. Ruby was born in a small town called Petty, Texas. Sometime later, the family moved to Honey Grove, Texas and she attended Bradley Pendleton. She did not complete her high school education but sought to go to work instead. She worked very hard pulling cotton until one day, she decided to move to Wichita Falls, Texas.
While living in Wichita, she married Danny Smith. She worked many years as a housekeeper, babysitter and bartender. She not only loved people but any type of animal that came her way. She attended the Greater Saint Mark Baptist Church and was very active there. She was also affiliated with the Eastern Star. After residing in Wichita Falls for over 50 years, her health started to decline, and she had to move back to Honey Grove.
Ruby had to be placed in the Honey Grove Nursing Center and everyone fell in love with her. She wanted to attend church, and she did just that. She attended the Christian Chapel faithfully until she couldn’t any longer due to certain issues. Ruby enjoyed life to the fullest. She overcame many obstacles that a lot of people never knew about. We all loved Ruby, but God loved her more. She was called home by her heavenly Father and we all have to cross that river one day. Ruby will be missed but never forgotten. Her loving personality and warm smile will always be in our hearts. To God be the Glory!!!!
She was preceded in death by her parents; Ray Austin and Lucille Savage, her husband, Danny Smith and sister, Ella Mae Easter.
