Robert Q. Jones Obituary

The sun rose on Robert Quincy Jones on April 4th, 1973, in Wichita Falls, Texas he was 52 years old. Robert was born to the late Robert Lee Jones, Jr. and Jewelene Turner Jones in Wichita Falls, Texas.  Robert grew up in Burkburnett, Texas, where he developed a passion for playing unrelenting pranks on his little brother (Demetrius) as well as playing sports such as football and basketball. As a child, Robert enjoyed waking up at 6am every Saturday morning to watch every cartoon ever made until programming ended at 11am. His focus did not stop there. When Robert was in 7th grade, his math teacher explained to his parents that he was very gifted as he could complete complex college-leveled calculus problems with ease. He would study until midnight on school nights and sometimes on weekends. Christmas was his favorite holiday of the year.
During Robert’s senior year of High School, he played the position of point guard for the popular Burkburnett Bulldogs (Dunkin Dawgs) Basketball team where he was team captain, he says that he had patterned his style of the game after his older brother Stevie, who also played basketball for Burkburnett High School in 1986. Robert also enjoyed hanging out with his friends and relatives, his favorite memory was sitting under the carport at his grandmother’s house during the summers in Burkburnett and shooting the breeze with his cousin’s while peeling and cutting peaches so that his grandmother could make her famed homemade peach cobbler.
Robert graduated from Burkburnett High School in 1991 and attended Prairie View A&M University the following fall. In the summer of 1993, Robert enlisted in the military branch of the Airforce where he enjoyed a career of serving his country and retired after 20 years of service. Also, during this time, Robert met and married then wife (Anja) in Germany and adopted her daughter (Whitney) as his own, from this union a son was born (Justin). Upon retiring from the Airforce, Robert moved to the Dallas Ft. Worth metroplex where he met and married Suzanne Jones of Ft. Worth in 2022.During his time in service, Robert served in Iraq and was honored with an Iraq Campaign Service Medal and multiple Air Force commendation medals, as well as receiving a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.  A proud serviceman, a loving father and husband, a thoughtful brother, a passionate Dallas Cowboys fan, and a loyal friend to many. Robert (Quincy) lived life to the fullest often seen in his comfortable recliner cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys.
Robert was a nurturing and affectionate father to his children, whose style was both tough love and compassionate guidance to “JuJu” (Justin), they would often spend time playing the latest video games together like Tekken or watching old-school cartoons, while to Whitney “Whit Whit”, he devoted countless hours tutoring her in math, patiently working through problems even when tears of frustration were streaming down her face. Robert always reminded her that she was capable and stronger than she believed. Robert proudly took on the role of “grandad” when Whitney had her children Trent and Chloe; he cherished every moment that he had with them. For Kayla, he enjoyed spending time with her every chance that he had and if he could not make it to Europe to see her, he would send her gifts and video chat with her.  And to his wife Suzanne, a loving protector and steadfast supporter. As a civilian, Robert held several managerial positions in the grocery industry after retiring from the Airforce, where he once said that the supermarket industry is “big business.”
Robert grew up in the church and understood the struggles of humanity and the power of prayer. Robert’s philosophical statement “At least I tried,” is a declaration of defiance in an uncaring and chaotic world that truly embodied his personality of unwavering focus and tenacity. Robert wanted to make something of his life, even though the odds were against him. With his humor, charm, and sharp-wit, Robert could brighten any room. His presence in our lives was truly a blessing. We will miss you.
He is preceded in death by his parents Robert L Jones, Jr. and Jewelene Turner Jones, his grandparents Annie Bell Crane, Robert L Jones, Sr., Jesse Thomas and Elijah Turner, his Aunts Brinda Ailey, Selita McCleod, Victoria Booker, and great uncle, Curtis Williams, Sr.
