Robert Henry Garnett was born during the depression era on April 18, 1934 in Wichita Falls, Texas to the late Alvin and Myrtis Bradley Garnett. He was one of three children born, both siblings preceded him in death.
His family moved from Wichita Falls to Tyler, Texas four months after his birth. After a brief time in Tyler the family permanently located to Fort Worth, Texas.
Robert was raised in Fort Worth, graduating from I.M. Terral High School in 1952. He furthered his education attending and graduating from Prairie View A&M University in 1956 and later graduating from Midwestern State University in 1978 with a Masters in Education.
He married Willie Mae Walpool on October 22, 1956. She preceded him in death December 14, 1995.
Robert's teaching career began in 1956 at Booker T. Washington High School. He taught Math and Shop classes. He taught at BTW for thirteen years until integration and he transferred to S.H. Rider High School. During his five year tenure at Rider he taught Shop, Mathematics and served as Assistant Football and Basketball Coach. In 1974 he transferred to Wichita Falls High School where he served as Assistant Principal for over eighteen years.
He completed his career serving as Principal at Carrigan Tech School for two years and retired from WFISD.
Mr. Garnett passed away on June 20, 2023 in Wichita Falls.
He is survived by two nephews, two nieces, Cathy Donal, Joe Garnett, Kay and Nead. A host of cousins and friends. His caretaker and friend, Donnie Williams.
