Obituary

Richard Joseph Turcotte was born in Ephrata, Washington on August 17, 1949. Upon returning from Vietnam, being stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma Richard resided in Wichita Falls for the remainder of his life, until he departed to his heavenly home in July 12, 2023.

Richard was a highly distinguished Vietnam Veteran. He was awarded the Silver Star with Palm along with two Purple Heart Awards for his gallantry in action while engaged in conflict with hostile enemy on May 18, 1968 at Xuan Loc, Republic of Vietnam. Two members of the machine crew (71st Artillery) were mortally wounded. Richard immediately assisted in evacuating the casualties. Richard observed hostile enemy advancing and he forced them to take cover. Richard continued to aid his comrades in repelling the hostile troops until he was wounded. Again, Richard exposed himself to hostile series of shots fired in quiet succession to evacuate the more seriously injured soldiers.

Richard's outstanding courage unwavering devotion to duty and deep concern to his comrades at Xuan Loc continued in his dedication to his ministry to youth and his life long battle with Agent Orange.

He was truly a blessing to everyone. He forever met and covered the backs of those in need of assistance. Richard left behind his loving wife, Nakiea. They were married on April 16, 1983. From the first day they met until his death, they were the best of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Omer and Doris Turcotte, his two sisters, Janice Foltz and JoAnna Scholmer. Two brothers, Joe Turcotte and Larry Turcotte.

He is survived by, Carol Hart (Jerry), Linda McNeely (Keith), Beverly Hastings (Larry), Laura Turcotte, Donald Turcotte (Carla), John Turcotte (Linda) and Alice Brooks (Neil).
