Pastor Reginald O. Blow Obituary

Reginald Oswald Blow Sr. was born in Fort Worth, Texas on September 30, 1954 to Harold and Fannie Mae Blow. In 1956, the family moved to Wichita Falls, Texas. Reginald was the eldest of three sons born to an educator and Air Force veteran. Reginald learned the value of educational prowess and leadership skills at a young age. Growing up on the Eastside of Wichita Falls, during a time when the community thrived, reinforced and influenced the love he had for his community.

In his youth Reginald attended Jackson Memorial Church of God in Christ. This is where he discovered his love for the Lord, a love that continued to grow throughout his life. In 1968, his freshman class at Notre Dame was the first to be integrated. Reginald played basketball and set the rebound record for the city. He was selected by his high school to Boys State where young men, with bright minds, gather and network. In his senior year, he was his class president.

After graduating high school in 1972, Reginald attended North Texas University on a basketball scholarship. He later transferred to Midwestern State University and earned his degree in Political Science and Economics while also working full time at the Gatsby and later CertainTeed. He then moved to Vernon, Texas where he became a manager at Celanese Chemical Plant. In Vernon, Texas his love for the lord continued when he attended New Hope Baptist Church where his best friend, since the first grade, was Pastor. This lead to Reginald, along with his father Harold Blow, founding New Hope as a nondenominational church on the Eastside of Wichita Falls. In 1986, Reginald returned to Wichita Falls and became a teacher adjacent in the Special Needs department at Wichita Falls High School. That was where his mentorship and guidance of youth began. During his tenure as an educator, he was inspired to pursue a career in journalism when he believed that vital history was being overlooked by local news. This lead to the conception of the North Texas Journal.

Reginald became a well-known publisher and outspoken member of the Texas Publisher’s Association where he eventually became President. Between the years of 1999 to 2016, Reginald served on the Wichita Falls Independent School District Board of Trustees (WFISD). In 2010, Reginald became the first African American to be elected as President of the School Board. Reverend Blow served as a Chaplain for the Wichita Falls Police Department for over 20 years. One of his greatest honors was when he became a Chaplain at United Regional Healthcare System in 2018. This allowed him to enhance and fulfill his passion for helping people in their time of need.

Reverend Reginald Blow was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather which was the foundation for much of his success and achievements.

His was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Fannie Mae, and brother, Ronald.
