Michael Alex Smith (Smitty) was born on February 28, 1957, to Ira George Smith and Lillie B. Smith in Plainview, Texas. He moved to Wichita Falls at an early age and attended Wichita Falls High School, where he graduated from the class of 1975. He played football for the Coyotes and knew how to hold his own. He loved fishing, swimming, grilling, playing dominoes, and entertaining friends. He would welcome anyone into his home and never met a stranger. Always had a smile on his face. He worked at CertainTeed Factory Plant for over 20 years.
Michael was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. L.W. Washington, Sr. He later rededicated his life to Christ.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Ira George Smith and Lillie B. Smith, Grandparents, Will Cooper (Grandfather), Lillie Mae Turner Cooper (Grandmother), (wife) Mary Ann Smith, (Son) Joseph, (Sisters) Rose Smith, Teresa Gail Smith-Thorton, and Linda Bradley. (Grandchildren) Micah, Major, and Daniesha (Nieces & Nephews), Gavin, Michael, Shakaya, and Ava. (Uncle) Alex Turner, (Aunt) Doris Beamon, (Cousins) Barbara, Beverly, Darrell, and Corey Beamon.
He leaves to cherish his legacy: (Sisters)Doris and Yvette Cecelia Smith; (Daughters) Stephanie Whitten, Lora Griggs-Brown, Miltonia Griggs; (Son) Michael Smith, Jr. (Brittany Smith); (Grandchildren) DeKendra, DaQuanna, TyKeisha, Michael III, Mikeala, Mickale, Marquise, Michoela, April, Maliyah, Isreal, and Malik. (Great Grandchildren) Host of Twenty-Seven. (Nieces) LaJuana, Tori, Tosse’ (Nephews) Aaron (Sarah) and Darron (Becki). Host of great Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews. Class of ’75.
