Melvin Ray Scott, affectionately known as “Titty,” was born on Monday, October 3, 1955, in Vernon, Texas, to Bennie D. Scott and Helen Scott (Dixon). He spent his early years in Vernon, Texas, and later relocated to Wichita Falls, Texas in 1993, where he built a life centered around family, work, and community.
Melvin was united in marriage to his loving wife, Crystal Gipson-Scott. During his working years, he was employed by Work Services Corporation (WSC) in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he worked faithfully until his health began to decline.
Melvin was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. He had a warm and welcoming spirit and was known for never meeting a stranger. He loved sports of all kinds and was a passionate, lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Music brought him great joy, and he enjoyed spending time listening to his favorite songs and sharing those moments with family and friends.
On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, Melvin departed this life peacefully. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie Scott and Helen Scott-Dixon; his stepfather, Frank Dixon; two sisters, Brenda Johnson and Mary Stillwell.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Crystal Gipson-Scott of Wichita Falls, Texas. He is survived by his siblings: Verna Scott, Vera Scott, and Virginia Scott, all of Vernon, Texas; Kelly Marcelle-Jones of Dallas, Texas; Sheryl Young of Lubbock, Texas; James Scott of Dallas, Texas; and Winter Jones of Vernon, Texas.
Melvin leaves behind a loving family including six daughters: Jadara Scott of Aubrey, Texas; Tara Baker of Lancaster, Texas; Charita Scott of Fort Worth, Texas; Dominique Scott of Fort Worth, Texas; Meyoshia Gray of Lawton, Oklahoma; Zamika Bell "Molly" of Lawton, Oklahoma. He leaves four sons: Melvin Scott Jr. of Vernon, Texas; Detrick Gipson of Wichita Falls, Texas; Eric Gipson of The Colony, Texas; and Michael Johnson of Lawton, Oklahoma.
He also leaves to cherish his memory his two longtime and devoted friends, Brian Gipson of Vernon, Texas, and James Willie “Papa” of Vernon, Texas.
Melvin’s legacy continues through his 27 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish the love, laughter, and memories he shared with them.
Melvin will be remembered for his kind heart, his love for family, his passion for sports and music, and the joy he brought into the lives of those who knew him.
