Gwendolyn Galloway Obituary

Gwendolyn Alethea Galloway (Obituary)
ROMANS 8: 1, THERE IS THEREFORE NOW NO CONDEMNATION TO THEM WHICH ARE
IN CHRIST JESUS, WHO WALK NOT AFTER THE FLESH, BUT AFTER THE SPIRIT.
Our beautiful mother, grandmother aka “Nenaw”, sister, and friend Gwendolyn Alethea (Pipi)
Galloway was gifted to Louis Veney and Gwendolyn Veney-Pratt on August 11, 1955, in
Philadelphia, PA. She made her move to a home not built by man’s hand on December 31,
2023.
Gwen spent her younger years living with family on Wanamaker St and 57 th & Race in
Philadelphia, Pa. She attended John Barry Elementary & Shoemaker Middle school and
attended Mt. Carmel Baptist Church singing in the choir, before transferring to Wichita Falls,
Texas in 1970. Upon moving to Wichita Falls, she attended Hirschi High where she graduated in
1973. Upon graduation she met James E. Galloway at the Naval Base in New Jersey, to later
marry and have two beautiful daughters. Her church membership span from Greater St. Mark
Baptist, Shiloh, New Jerusalem, and New Birth., she became very strong in faith, loved to help
people.
Gwen worked at Spraque Electric for many years until the plant closed, then continued her
education at Vernon Regional Jr. College on Sheppard Air Force Base to get her associate
degree in accounting. While attending school she had worked at the Hospital on base as a
Medical Records clerk before being promoted to Sheppard Air Force Base 82 nd Training Unit as
a GS5 Training Officer until she retired in 2012 to take care of her ill mother, traveling from
Wichita Falls to Dallas until her mother (Gwen) returned home to glory on January 2, 2014. After
retirement she enjoyed spending time with family, going to the casino, playing Solitaire on her
computer, listening to gospel and oldie’s music, and singing. She loved to be her oldest
daughter (Lynnette)’s passenger buddy (or might say, back seat buddy) when it came to
traveling on the road. She loved talking to her tv buddies, Tammera and Harold, about their
favorite TV shows. In addition, She was an avid football fan and her favorite team was
(Philadelphia Eagles) a bond she shared with her grandson (Mj) and brother (Fats), but I don’t
think the Eagles were her brother’s favorite team lol. She shared a bond with her
granddaughter, Mahaugony, because they loved to discuss their daily events with one another.
Her joy was going to pick up her great-grandchildren, JaMarri and Cymphany, and sitting on the
porch with her other great-grandchild, Josiah, because he loved the outdoors. She lived across
the way from her mother’s friend, Ms. Gloria Phillips, that treated her like her daughter. She also
dearly loved her son-n-law Lonnie Smith aka “Bust” to her, and shared prayer request check-ins
frequently.
Gwen was proceeding in death by her parents Gwendolyn (Sammy) Pratt, Louis Veney, uncles
Maurice and Vincent Hunley, sister Tanya Augustus-Veney of Philadelphia Pa., brother Derrick
White of Philadelphia, Pa.
Leaves to cherish her memories daughters Lynnette Galloway-Smith (Lonnie), Tammera
Galloway both of Wichita Falls; Brothers Maurice ‘Fats’ (Janice) White of Houston, Harold White
of Austin,. Donald White, Los Angeles, Ca., Robert (Pat) Veney of Delaware, Pa., David Veney
of Philadelphia, Pa.; Grandchildren, Maurice ‘Mj’ (Tera), Mahaugony, Dameon, Makhyla, and
honorary grandchild Ty’Asia Cooper, Great Grandchildren Ja’Marri, Josiah, Cymphany all from
Wichita Falls, her sister-n-law Pandora Crawford and family of Oklahoma City, Ok, and a host of
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
