Deacon R.L. Smith Obituary

Deacon Robert (R.L.) Smith, a devoted man of God, loving husband, father, grandfather, and respected community member, peacefully entered eternal rest on March 20, 2026.

Born on October 23, 1937, in Caldwell, Texas, to Wyatt and Willie May Smith, Robert’s life was deeply rooted in faith and service. He was first ordained as a dedicated deacon at Bethel Baptist Church in Electra, Texas, under Rev. Willie King Jr., and later served faithfully on the Deacon Board at Providence Baptist Church in Burkburnett, Texas, under Rev. Carl English for many years.

Robert’s life was a true reflection of strong faith, humility, and unwavering commitment to God and family. Known for leading by example, he generously offered wisdom, kindness, and encouragement to all who knew him. He was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge, devoted to service and brotherhood.

He was united in holy matrimony to his beloved wife, Annie Pearl Smith, with whom he shared 68 years of love and partnership. Together, they built a legacy of faith and family in Burkburnett, Texas. Their blessed union brought forth seven children, eighteen grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, loved ones, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Robert worked faithfully for the City of Burkburnett for many years, earning respect for his strong work ethic and dedication until his retirement in the 1990s. Beyond his work, he found joy in his passions—racing greyhounds, raising horses and hogs, and rabbit hunting—activities that brought him peace and happiness throughout his life.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Annie Pearl; children Willie Jean Monroe, Curtis Smith (Gail), Wynell Smith (Mary), and Jamar Smith; grandchildren Quoqueze, Adrienna (Jerome), Neceol, Jarell, Jasmine, Jerry, Kalynn, Jessica, Janelle, and Khannon; and siblings Ophelia Franklin, Hester Dimes (James), and Roy Lee Smith (Sadie).

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Wyatt and Willie Mae Smith; daughters Priscilla Stewart, Brenda Kay Thomas, and Emma Jean Smith; son-in-law Wayne Monroe; brothers Willie Earl, Ennis, Elijah, and Cornelius; siblings Eula Morrison and Susie Veal; granddaughter April Smith; and grandson Jeremy Monroe.

His legacy of faith, strength, and love will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

The family extends special thanks to Sheridan Medical Lodge and Hospice of Wichita Falls for their compassionate care, love, and support.
