Dora L. (Booker) Pettie was born April 23, 1933 in McGregor, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Ellis “Buddy” Booker and Lucille Coatney-Wilson. Dora attended schools in McGregor, Texas. Her first job was at Irene’s Flower Shop in McGregor.
On November 19, 1949 she married Lloyd L. Pettie, Sr. and to this union four children were born. After her first three children were born, the family moved from McGregor to Wichita Falls. This was where they would raise all four of their children.
Dora was a stay at home mom until she began her career as an employee of the State Hospital, where she remained for over twenty nine years. She also worked in home health field and worked part time for Young & Company Funeral Home after her retirement.
She accepted Christ at an early age and after moving to Wichita Falls she united with the Eastside Baptist Church where she was a Charter Member. She was a faithful member of the church until her health began to fail. She served on the Usher Board, as a Deaconess and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Sgt. Lloyd Pettie, Sr. (June 1, 1980), her parents, two brothers and one sister.
Dora departed this life on Wednesday morning, December 26, 2018 at the age of 85. She was a wonderful beautiful person inside and out. Dora was a loving and beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, friend and will be missed dearly.
She leaves to cherish the memory of her life: her children; Evelyn Davis of Wichita Falls, Donna Stitt of McGregor, TX., Hallie Valentine (Jason) of Ft. Worth and Lloyd Pettie, Jr. (Bernetta) of Ft. Worth, thirteen grandchildren, thirty five great grandchildren, one brother; Marion Ellis Booker, Jr. of Maryland, her play daughter; Rev. Brenda Green and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
