Reflections of Her Life

Johnnie Lee Reagor Scroggins was born May 19, 1926 to the parentage of John D. and Alice Reagor. She was named John Lee after her father, but her teacher changed her name to Johnnie Lee. She was the fifth of nine children born to that union.

Johnnie Lee married Earnie B. Scroggins, Sr. and to that union four children were born. She is survived by Diann Scroggins of Wichita Falls, Texas, Elizabeth Mothershed (Walter) of Irvine California, Rev. Earnie B. Scroggins, Jr. (Shyrl) of Grand Prarie, Texas and Shangrila Martin of Wichita Falls, Texas. She has four grandchildren:  Nathaniel Bogan (Judith), Earnie B. Scroggins, III., Chenese Strange (Michael) and John Christopher Scroggins. She has ten great-grandchildren, three nieces: Emma Jean Anderson (Nois), Dr. Betty Johnson, Bennye Thomas, two nephews: Dr. Luther D. Edwards, III. and Odis Dale Reagor. She has two Special Spiritual Daughters; Frankie Zachary, Benita Donnell and a host of cousins and friends.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the New Mount Zion Baptist Church in Waxahachie, Texas where she served until she relocated to Wichita Falls in the late 1950's. Johnnie Lee became a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, and was a faithful member serving in various auxiliaries including; the Senior Choir, Mission I. and Women's Chorus. She was most proud of being the Superintendent of the Sunday School.

As a cosmetologist, Johnnie Lee owned her beauty shop attached to her home. She worked in various other jobs to support her family including: Johnson and Johnson, the Johnson's Restaurant, Private Home Duty, Sheppard Air Force Base Chef and Fry Cook, Wichita Falls MHMR and Wichita Falls Housing Authority, where she was the Property Manager.

Johnnie Lee loved the Lord and she loved people as was evident by her enjoyment of cooking, feeding everybody and serving others. She was energetic, high spirited and worked persistently with Civic and Community Organizations. She was honored for her work.  She was active in the Community Action Association, AARP, Diabetic Association, Federation of Women's Clubs and the Cosmetology Club of Wichita Falls. Johnnie Lee was the past president of the Eastside Girls Club Board of Directors and worked to ensure that girls were taught etiquette and survival skills. She was a highly sophisticated lady and modeled poise and values at all times. She especially modeled being a child of King Jesus. She helped raise her siblings' children and always told them and her children to "Get More Jesus". She lived a full and relevant life. While being bedridden, she still ministered to people, sharing her recipes with young women and Praising God. Her living has not been in vain. Her life can be summed up as being "A Life Well Lived" . Praise God.
